Rome loses romantic glow to harsh LED streetlights

Rome is presently undertaking a $52m overhaul of street lighting, some of which illuminates the world’s most beautiful architecture.  Early reports indicate the City opted for harsher LEDs rather than LEDs that emulate the warm yellow glow of traditional street lighting.  Accordingly, some of the City’s romantic charm has been lost.  The New York Times cited the following opinion:

The old lights and the new ones are a “candlelit dinner versus the frozen-food aisle of your local grocery store,” Elizabeth Minchilli, an American resident of the central neighborhood of Monti, wrote on Facebook.

Nobody can fault Rome for moving in an energy-efficient direction, but ample homework is required to find the right lighting for each application..
