Asus recently announced the Zenfone 3 Zoom.  While the smartphone packs an impressive camera array and huge 5,000 mAh battery, it features a problematic AMOLED display. The choice of AMOLED over a traditional IPS LCD display was probably made due to better visibility in bright outdoor conditions – something those more serious about photography would appreciate.  Unfortunately, appears to follow the same flicker characteristics as other AMOLED devices.

We are looking forward to measuring this particular smartphone though this early indication of flicker probably precludes this device as a good choice for those most sensitive.

The flicker is most pronounced at 1:27 and 1:39.
